House Republicans Push Tax Reform as Democrats Remain Against Trump's Plan
House Republicans narrowly passed a budget resolution enabling tax reform, including extending Trump-era TCJA provisions. The Senate version allows $1.5 trillion in tax cuts with minimal spending cuts and uses scoring tactics to hide long-term costs. Reps. Massie and Spartz opposed it, warning of record deficits and misleading accounting.
Democrats, led by top lawmakers, condemned the plan for favoring the wealthy and risking $7 trillion in new debt. They warned it would slash Medicaid, reduce ACA coverage, and shut down care facilities. A 46-senator letter accused Republicans of shifting resources from essential services to tax breaks for billionaires.

Senate Reintroduces Mobile Workforce Tax Simplification Bill with AICPA Support
The Mobile Workforce State Income Tax Simplification Act of 2025 (S. 1443) would bar states from taxing nonresident employees unless they work there for more than 30 days annually. The bill aims to standardize tax rules and reduce burdens on mobile workers and employers. Exceptions include athletes, entertainers, some film workers, and public figures.
The AICPA, calling the bill “important,” supports the measure, mentioning the complexity of multistate tax compliance. Backed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Council on State Taxation, and the Mobile Workforce Coalition, the bill seeks to ease reporting, withholding, and administrative challenges faced by businesses with employees working across state lines.
